The Roots of GlenOaks On August 17, 1964, New London and the surrounding communities were introduced to the care and services offered by GlenOaks. Today, over forty years after its inception, GlenOaks Senior Housing and Care Services continues to provide unmatched quality care to its clients and residents. Seeking to offer quality nursing care and rehabilitative services to local seniors, Leland and Alice Juhl and Dr. Jack and Mrs. Irlys Guy opened GlenOaks Rehabilitative Center in the summer of 1964. Starting with accommodations for sixty-two residents, GlenOaks offered the kind of services and care that was uncommon in the area. "At the time there really wasn't anthing like that in the New London area, not even in Willmar," explained Leland Juhl. "GlenOaks was conceived with the idea of providing a nursing home with more than just adequate nursing care for its guests and residents." As the years progressed, so did GlenOaks. In 1980, GlenOaks added the Village Apartments after recognizing the needs of residents who preferred to remain active and independent. This retirement facility played an important role at GlenOaks and in the community, offering a place for seniors to live that was geared to their changing needs. Continuing to meet the health needs of area residents meant adding Lake Region Home Health in 1985. This service provides in-home care for people of all ages, offering assistance with skilled nursing care, personal care, meal preparation and light housekeeping. IN the years to come, this addition would prove to be an invaluable resource for clients with temporary and/or long-term health needs. To keep up with its growing resident population, the Village Apartments opened six more additions, also in 1985. In 1990, the GlenOaks Personal Care Suites opened, serving residents who require some daily medical and/or physical assistance, but who prefer a facility that feels more like home. The Personal Care Suites have many amenities including private accommodations, kitchen facilities, a beautiful central dining area, a cozy fireplace and a bird avaiary. GlenOaks newest innovation in senior care is Adult Day Services, opened in 1992. This program is a supervisory care service offered to individuals of all ages who are nowbeing cared for at home and are in need of additional social interaction and stimulation. Clients in the program can receive meals, therapy, and some personal care, while also particitating in a wide variety of entertaining activities. Family members of clents also benefit greatly from Adult Day Services, as it allows them valuable personal time to run errands or socialize outside the home. Juhl, in November of 1993 after having placed the owership of GlenOaks in the hands of his son (current administrator) and daughter-in-law Larry and Paula Juhl, looked back over the years with fond memories. "I've enjoyed the residents and people most of all. We have been fortunate to have quality staff with an icredible amount of loyalty. Thant's something you can't put a price on. What's important at GlenOaks is the continutiy of what has always been our basic philosophy: quality care in doing what's best for the client." Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy Rehab Dynamics Inc. joined GlenOaks in 1994. Due to the rapid growth of the therapy demaprtments, more space was needed. The new Therapy Building was added to the GlenOaks Care CEnter campus and opened June of 1996. GlenOaks continues to grow, giving seniors and area residents more choices than ever when it comes to housing and personal health care. In April of 2006 Living Services Foundation, a nonprofit organization purchased GlenOaks and Lake Region Home Health. The same great quality of Care continues as Living Services Foundation supports the same staff, services and values that GlenOaks as always had.
